Let me start by saying if I had read any reviews before going to the cinema I would have saved my pennies and bought Troll 2 on Blu-ray. This film gets slated. You would think it was made by Uwe Boll. I liked the original and was looking forward to seeing a sequel but when I heard it wasn’t found footage I had me doubts.
Thankfully the transition from one style to the other is successful as trying to do this sequel as found footage wouldn’t have worked. Too much happens for you to believe everything would have been caught on camera and it would’ve been too distracting so a change in style is essential to be able to tell this story.
Here’s a brief synopsis…
As Nell Sweetzer tries to build a new life after the events of the first movie, the evil force that once possessed her returns with an even more horrific plan.
Ashley Bell reprises her role as Nell and does a phenomenal job as a girl recovering from a traumatic ordeal and trying to adjust to everyday life, Getting a job, friends and a boyfriend. Starting off scared and timid, eventually coming out of her shell, reminiscent of Carrie, you feel for her and want her to overcome her “inner demons” and this is largely due to Ashley’s performance.
The supporting cast was fairly bland. The girls in the shelter were unlike-able and generic. The love interest was a good use of a cardboard cut-out. Dad looked like he’d lost a fiver and found a pound and the priest came across as pretty creepy. All the supporting characters were clichéd and seen before a bit like everything about this film.

Unplugged phone still rings? Tick
Seeing visions that disappear when bus drives by? Tick
Barking dog makes you jump? Tick
Demon seduces girl whilst she sleeps?
Oops! Wrong film but Tick
None of this matters as I found this to be entertaining nonetheless. It’s a little light on the gore…
…but I hope there will be an uncut version when it’s released on Blu-ray.
What really makes this film is the ending. I wont give too much away but it’s a satisfactory conclusion to an excellent sequel. It’s largely original and refreshing. Don’t believe the hate, check it out for yourselves you might be surprised. I enjoyed it, although Carol said it was crap, you might too.
